The romance of the Dal Lake from time immemorial has been illustriously described in the way it evokes passion between lovers, it’s scenic and idyllic setting providing a backdrop to many a movies. Since 1989 when Kashmir became a hot bed of insurgency and militant action, tourism hit rock bottom until a few years back, but there has been one aspect of the Dal which has remained unfettered and unmoved by the consequences of terrorism : its floating markets. Every other day traders engage in this most amazing modern form of barter trade surviving on this planet. And with the scenic backdrop of Kashmir, the market assumes a character of its own.
